Prepare for Fall

hurricane track

Hurricane Edna, whose track is shown here, was the second hurricane to strike Maine in less than two weeks, in 1954. The result was millions of dollars in damages. NOAA Coastal Services Center

For many, fall is Maine's most beautiful season. The bugs are gone, the sun is warm, and the foliage is glorious.

Late summer and fall are also the season of hurricanes in Maine. Coastal storms can be violent as well. And remember, one of the worst floods ever in southern Maine happened in October of 1996.

We offer hurricane and coastal storm safety here, but please visit our complete library, as well as the other seasons, to learn more about Maine hazards, and how to prepare for them.
